Job summary

Yahoo Holdings Inc. seeks a Principal Research Scientist to lead the evolution of budget control, pacing, and bidding algorithms within the DSP Optimization team.

You will guide the high-scale optimization stack and foster AI-augmented development loops across research and production. You will mentor senior scientists, define the technical strategy, and partner with engineering and product management to ensure scalable, safe, and measurable improvements.

Qualifications

• PhD in a quantitative field relevant to optimization, ML, or control theory.
• 8+ years designing and deploying large-scale optimization, control, or ML in production.
• Strong foundation in probability, convex/stochastic optimization, and control theory.
• Experience in production programming languages (Python, Java, C++, SQL) and low-latency/distributed data architectures.
• Hands-on experience with AI pair-programming and developer automation tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead research, architectural design, and deployment of large-scale algorithms for budget pacing and bid optimization.
• Architect AI workflows and automated experiment orchestration to accelerate research-to-production.
• Provide technical strategy and long-term vision for the DSP optimization ecosystem.
• Apply control theory and ML to real-time marketplace dynamics with uncertainty.
• Mentor scientists and engineers and communicate results to executives.
