Job summary

NV5 is seeking a Distribution Engineer III/IV in San Diego, CA (Hybrid: 4x in office / 1x remote) to support our Transmission & Distribution electrical design group. You will participate in delivering mechanical, electrical, and substation solutions.

The role requires a Civil or Electrical Engineering background with 8+ years in consulting or utility design, strong codes/standards knowledge, and proficiency in design software including PLS-CADD. California pay range noted.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• MS Degree in relevant field is preferred.
• Familiar with industry codes and standards (GO95, NESC, IEEE, ASCE).
• 8+ years’ experience in consulting engineering or utility design, Civil or Electrical.
• Proficient in design software; knowledge of PLS-CADD for electrical roles.

Responsibilities

• Follow budgets and schedules; identify departures to meet client expectations.
• Act as lead engineer on projects or as a technical project manager.
• Produce construction documents, plans, specs, calculations, and takeoffs.
• Coordinate design work with survey, design, engineering, and civil teams.
• Provide QA checks on drawings and calculations prior to release.
• Interpret client, company, and industry standards as needed.
• Demonstrate knowledge of local codes and industry standards.
• Analyze and solve construction and operational problems.
• Assist in proposals for new work via scope and fee development.
