Job summary

Dungarvin in Wisconsin seeks a Lead Direct Support Professional (DSP) to join a residential group home and provide compassionate care for adults with disabilities. You will mentor staff, support daily activities, and help residents achieve personal goals in a structured environment.

The role emphasizes health and safety, crisis management, and consistent documentation while fostering independence and community integration for individuals served.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license required.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Experience with adults with mental health issues or disabilities preferred.
• Ability to drive company vehicles may be required.

Responsibilities

• Support and mentorship with daily activities to those we support, ensuring health and safety.
• Provide hands‑on mentoring to help individuals become more independent.
• Encourage individuals to achieve personal goals and provide positive direction.
• Assist with daily routines, meals, cleaning, and community integration.
• Assist with transportation to appointments and activities.
• Attend team meetings and provide input and follow‑up as needed.

Job Description

What You Get To Do:

Working directly as a Lead Direct Support Professional (DSP) / Caregiver, you will be able to assist in a residential group home by assisting people with disabilities achieve a variety of outcomes, assist with personal cares and provide normalization/community integration. The Lead DSP (caregiver/mentor) is responsible for providing:

• Support and mentorship with daily activities to those we support in a manner that ensures their health and safety. Some examples include helping with meals, cleaning, and facilitating fun activities.
• Hands‑on mentoring to those we serve to help them become more independent.
• Positive direction to the individuals to encourage them to achieve their personal goals.
• Provide medication administration and ensure person's medical well-being.
• Act as a role model for staff in the use of the Dungarvin policy manual and policy implementation.
• Assist in grocery shopping, transporting clients to appointments, organizing program routines, training staff, and assisting with monthly fire/tornado drills.
• To attend team meetings, providing input and follow‑up as needed.
• To monitor all documentation systems in the service site to ensure accuracy, thoroughness, and timeliness.
• To assist the Program Director in locating substitute staff for open shifts.

To be successful in this role we are looking for candidates with prior experience with high behaviors, both verbal and physical. You will provide supports to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, people who are faced with metal health, behavioral, and/or significant medical challenges! We are looking to hire staff who are patient, have good decision making and crisis management skills, and who will not be intimated by these behaviors. Prior IDD, mental health, psychiatric, and/or security experience is strongly preferred.

Qualifications

• Valid Drivers License (due to transporting persons served)
• Excitement for working with adults with disabilities
• High school diploma or GED certificate
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Candidates must be comfortable driving company vehicles to transport persons served as required
  • Some positions / locations may require own personal vehicle and auto-liability insurance based on the role
• Experience with adults with mental health issues, disabilities or related experience

Nice to have:

• Prior education and/or experience in residential services for the developmentally disabled preferred
• Prior experience leading peers/ co-workers
