Job summary

Resources for Human Development (RHD) seeks a Direct Support Professional Lead in Delaware to support individuals with developmental disabilities in a residential setting. The role combines hands-on care with leadership, mentoring DSPs, and ensuring compliant, person-centered services.

You will work closely with the Residential Manager, provide on-site training, oversee documentation, and help maintain a safe, therapeutic home environment. Competitive pay and comprehensive benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• CPR and First Aid certification required.
• Ability to complete required trainings and background checks.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-site behavioral health and direct care in a residential setting.
• Assist with personal care, daily living activities, meals, housekeeping, and transportation.
• Mentor DSPs and provide on-site training and guidance to staff.
• Collaborate with Residential Manager on policy, training, and compliance.
• Maintain timely and accurate daily documentation and medication records.
• Ensure safe staffing levels and appropriate staff-to-individual ratios.
• Coordinate medical appointments and pharmacy needs, as needed.
• Respond to crises and maintain a safe, therapeutic environment.
• Advocate for individuals and connect with community resources.
• Deliver trauma-informed, person-centered care.

What You’ll Do

• Provide on-site behavioral health and direct care services to individuals with developmental disabilities in a residential setting
• Assist with personal care, daily living activities, meal preparation, housekeeping, recreational activities, transportation, and medical appointments
• Provide supervision and guidance that helps individuals develop skills, build independence, and maximize their quality of life
• Mentor Direct Support Professionals and provide on-site training and guidance to support staff
• Work with the Residential Manager to address policy, regulatory, training, and compliance concerns
• Maintain regular communication with the Residential Manager and other members of the support team
• Ensure required daily documentation is completed accurately and according to organizational standards
• Review documentation, including medication administration records, ISPs, T-Logs, daily checklists, and other required records
• Assist with ensuring appropriate staffing levels and staff-to-individual ratios
• Coordinate and follow up on medical appointments, prescriptions, pharmacy needs, and related documentation
• Monitor and respond appropriately to crisis situations while maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment
• Advocate for individuals and serve as a liaison to community resources
• Provide trauma-informed and person-centered care
• Help ensure services comply with applicable safety standards, regulations, organizational policies, and ethical standards

Qualifications Required

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Previous experience working with individuals with intellectual, developmental, or behavioral health challenges
• Valid driver’s license and required driving record
• CPR and First Aid certification
• Ability to successfully complete required organizational, regulatory, and program training
• Ability to pass required background check and drug screening
• Strong verbal and written communication skillsAbility to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong judgment, problem-solving, organization, and time-management skills
• Basic computer skills, including email, Microsoft Office, electronic documentation, and time-recording applications

Preferred

• Prior Direct Support Professional experience in an IDD residential setting
• Experience mentoring, training, or providing guidance to Direct Support Professionals
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care
• Experience with residential documentation, medication records, ISPs, and regulatory compliance
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills

Schedule

• Full-Time
• Schedule flexibility required based on residential program needs
• Evening and weekend availability may be required
• Schedule and work location may change based on business and individual needs

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, bend, stoop, twist, and climb stairs as required
• Ability to lift 50 pounds or more as required by the position
• Ability to drive and provide transportation as needed
• Ability to assist and supervise individuals safely within residential and community environments
• Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
