Job summary

Superior Skilled Trades is partnering with a client to hire an experienced Shop Foreman to oversee shop operations, coordinate maintenance and repair work, and lead a team of diesel technicians in Indianapolis, IN. This on-site role offers a competitive hourly pay between $35 and $45 and a Monday–Friday schedule.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of mechanical experience in fleet or equipment environments.
• Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot diesel, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
• Strong leadership, coaching, and training capabilities.
• DOT compliance knowledge and ability to ensure standards are met.
• Excellent organization and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced diagnostics, repairs, and troubleshooting across fleet and equipment.
• Lead by example in the shop, setting workmanship standards and accountability.
• Train and develop technicians through hands‑on coaching and problem solving.
• Manage shop workflow from intake to return to service for efficiency.
• Assign and manage work orders with timely completion and accurate records.
• Maintain 95%+ fleet uptime by proactively addressing issues.
• Execute preventative maintenance programs and ensure 100% compliance.
• Ensure no asset stays idle more than 48 hours without cause.
• Serve as final quality control checkpoint before assets return to service.
• Maintain inventory of parts, tools, and consumables; manage shortages.
• Source parts, manage vendor relationships, and submit POs per standards.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment.
• Support field crews by ensuring equipment is operational and ready.
• Provide proactive status updates and manage downtime risks.
• Operate with urgency to minimize downtime and speed repairs.
• Perform DOT inspections and ensure fleet compliance.
• Provide daily leadership updates on equipment status and shop performance.
• Hold technicians accountable for productivity, quality, and documentation.
• Support seasonal readiness for lawn and snow operations.

Education

DOT certification

CMMS experience

CDL (preferred)
