Job summary

Martin Marietta seeks an experienced Core Driller to lead field drilling operations in Garner, NC, supporting surface and underground mining. You will transport, operate, and maintain drilling equipment, mentor Assistant Drillers, and ensure safety and data quality across projects nationwide.

The role requires DOT compliance, 21+ years of age, and a current Medical Examiner's Certificate, with frequent travel and multi-day field assignments. Per Diem provided for lodging and meals.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Must hold a valid Class A CDL with Tanker endorsement and clean driving record.
• Must pass pre-employment drug screen, background check, and DOT medical exam.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to maintain and repair drilling equipment.
• Ability to lead crews and work independently or in teams.
• Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work 10–12 hour shifts in demanding environments.
• Able to repeatedly lift 50–75 pounds.
• Willingness to travel across the United States for multi-day assignments.
• Reliable attendance and commitment to safety and professionalism.

Responsibilities

• Promote safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence.
• Safely transport, mobilize, operate, and demobilize drilling equipment and support vehicles.
• Plan and execute drilling programs to meet production and quality targets.
• Operate wireline core drilling systems per procedures and best practices.
• Supervise Assistant Drillers during drilling operations.
• Mentor and evaluate Assistant Drillers for skill development.
• Collect and safeguard geological core samples and field data.
• Maintain drill logs, maintenance records, and safety documentation.
• Diagnose and repair drilling rigs, pumps, and diesel engines.
• Manage inventory of drilling consumables and parts.
• Load, unload, and transport equipment per DOT rules.
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work sites.
• Conduct pre-job hazard assessments and safety meetings.
• Coordinate with geologists and project managers to meet objectives.
