Job summary

Carestream Dental is seeking an experienced Desktop Development Manager to lead the teams behind SoftDent, PracticeWorks, and other clinical desktop products. You will own delivery, code quality, and the health of a distributed engineering organization across the US, UK, France and offshore partners.

You will drive technical excellence, manage debt and regulatory work, and partner with QA, DevOps and Product Management to ensure predictable releases and high-quality software for healthcare

Qualifications

• 8+ years in software development with 3+ years directly managing developers.
• Ownership of at least one long-lived production codebase with real customers.
• Proven track record of improving software quality and reducing customer-reported issues.
• Experience managing multiple concurrent product release trains with distributed teams.
• Experience utilizing large language models (e.g., Claude) to enhance work.
• Healthcare/dental or regulated software experience is a plus.
• Excellent interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach and grow desktop development teams across multiple sites and time zones.
• Manage a distributed organisation spanning the US, UK, France and offshore partners.
• Own predictable delivery across several product release trains and report variances.
• Raise engineering quality bar with code review standards and regression coverage.
• Manage technical debt with a funded paydown plan and prioritised work.
• Partner with QA on test strategy, automation and issue reduction.
• Deliver compliance and regulatory work to fixed external dates (e.g., NHS contracts).
• Own build and release health for desktop software with DevOps and installers.
• Collaborate with Product Management on intake, scope and release readiness.
• Triage and prioritize customer-reported issues with the global support team.
• Represent desktop products to senior stakeholders with delivery and quality reporting.
