Job summary

Venture Global LNG in Houston seeks a Lead Electrical Designer to drive detailed electrical package designs for HV/MV/LV systems and protection schemes. You will lead drafting, ensure quality via procedures, and collaborate closely with engineers and designers to deliver compliant drawings.

The role requires extensive experience with electrical design in oil & gas, along with expertise in 3D modelling tools and drafting standards.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience as an Electrical Design Lead in Oil & Gas.
• Proficiency with 3D modelling packages (AutoPlant / PDMS / PDS).
• Experience with CAD, AutoCAD, MicroStation, SmartPlant 3D and SPEL.
• Specialization in detailed drawings for lighting, power, earthing, HV/MV/LV diagrams, wiring/schematics, distribution panels; site travel.
• Ability to lead drafting teams and ensure drawings meet client specs and project standards.

Responsibilities

• Act as the drafting and design interface for the discipline on projects and proposals.
• Ensure quality of drafting by following quality procedures and maintaining records.
• Monitor and report drafting progress to the Engineering Manager.
• Direct junior designers and coordinate with other disciplines.
• Develop layouts, sections, elevations, and details from reference drawings or catalogs.
• Travel to Downton Houston office Monday–Friday for site walkdowns.

Lead Designer, Electrical

We are seeking a leader to join us as a Lead Electrical Designer. The Lead Electrical Designer will play a key role in the development of detailed design of electrical packages, contributing to the success and development of Venture Global Electrical Engineering Standards. Reporting directly to the Electrical Engineering Manager, you will work collaboratively with a team of engineers and designers to produce detailed designs and deliverables for the High Voltage (HV) system, Medium Voltage (MV) system, Low Voltage (LV) system, and Protection Systems.

Responsibilities

• Act as the drafting and design interface for the discipline for projects and proposals
• Ensure quality of drafting, design and back drafting by carrying out quality checks as per the quality procedures and maintain quality records thereof.
• Monitor and report drafting and design progress for projects to the Engineering Manager.
• Induct drafting and design personnel to the drafting procedures in the office and ensure adherence to the same.
• Liaise with other disciplines on technical issues.
• The ability to work independently to complete demanding assignments through the application of advanced design theories, techniques, and practices on several small and medium size projects.
• The ability to work within a team environment with a minimum of supervision.
• Performs moderately to difficult drafting assignments requiring a working knowledge of established drafting techniques, standards, practices and software. Understands and applies company procedures as they pertain to the electrical discipline.
• The proven ability to oversee the preparation of design and detail drawings from sketches, plans or other design / specification data.
• Ability to take on responsibility for the design and drafting of HV, MV and LV electrical installations.
• Direct the work of junior designers and ensure the drawings are in accordance with the client requirements and relevant project specifications.
• Have the experience to participate in design review with various clients and to advise on technical design and drafting issues and compliance requirements as appropriate.
• Be able to demonstrate a proven track record of completing a given work scope within time and project constraints.
• Develop layouts, plans, sections, elevations, and details for facilities, equipment, etc. from reference drawings or catalogs.
• Performs dimensional and routine calculations required for the preparation of drawings. Records and files electrical discipline documents.
• Ability to travel to job sites to perform site walkdown on raceway routing, etc.
• Responsible for the coordination of all electrical drawings.
• Quality Assurance – Responsible for working within the provisions and guidelines of the Quality Assurance system relevant to the project, etc.

Technical / Industry Experience And Qualifications Requirement

• 10 or more years of experience as an Electrical Design Lead in Oil and Gas Industry;
• Experience in:
• Engineering Workshare;
• 3D Modelling packages such as AutoPlant / PDMS / PDS;
• CAD;
• AutoCAD;
• Microstation
• SmartPlant 3D;
• SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL);
• Specialization in the following: detailed drawings for lighting; small power and earthing systems; HV/MV/LV single line diagrams; wiring and control schematic diagram; AC/DC distribution panels, process area electrical equipment layouts, substation and switchyard layouts, cable tray, above grade and underground cable layouts, ductbank sizing and layouts, preparation of installation details, grounding plans, lightning layouts.
• Cable schedules, cable pulling calculations, cable tray sizing calculations, cable selection & sizing calculations.
• Lighting calculations (using software AGI32, etc.)
• Material take-offs, selection of bulk materials.
• Heat Tracing system layouts.
• Able to commute to Downton Houston office Monday – Friday

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training

• A Degree or Diploma in Electrical Design / Drafting with discipline specific training.
• An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in electrical design and drafting.
