Job summary

ITW Deltar Fasteners in Illinois seeks a Design Engineer to lead and independently execute engineering projects, focusing on the design and development of plastic fasteners and fastener assemblies for automotive applications. You will collaborate with customers and suppliers throughout the product development lifecycle.

Responsibilities include creating preliminary concepts and detailed drawings, evaluating feasibility and manufacturability, conducting validation tests, and preparing patent

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Engineering or related field.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Self-motivated with a strong drive for results.
• In-depth knowledge of plastic products for automotive environments.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks and/or NX).
• Experience with or ability to learn FEA tools.
• Strong engineering judgment and problem-solving abilities.
• Capable of working with minimal supervision and across global teams.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Serve as project manager for assigned projects with sales and customers.
• Create preliminary concepts, detailed drawings, and supporting docs.
• Develop innovative design concepts and configurations for automotive fasteners.
• Evaluate feasibility, manufacturability, and performance of designs.
• Conduct research to enhance product performance and meet customer needs.
• Evaluate design alternatives and collaborate with Innovation team.
• Perform functional and validation testing for reliability and compliance.
• Communicate with suppliers on material specs and technical requirements.
• Prepare and submit patent applications for novel designs.
• Benchmark competitors to identify differentiation opportunities.
