Job summary

Allstate is seeking a Managing Engineer to lead the Database & Platform Engineering team responsible for on prem and cloud databases (MySQL, Redis, MongoDB, and MongoDB Atlas). You will guide a team of DBAs/Platform Engineers and drive platform services to support product teams with reliability and speed.

The role combines people leadership, technical ownership of database architecture, and close collaboration with product, SRE, and security teams to ensure operational excellence.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in database administration or data platform engineering.
• 3+ years in people management or technical leadership.
• Experience deploying production databases on-prem and in cloud.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of Database Administrators / Platform Engineers.
• Own the technical roadmap for database platform services (MySQL, MongoDB).
• Oversee platform engineering tasks: upgrades, backups, automation, capacity planning.
• Design high availability, DR, and backup strategies.
• Implement CI/CD for database provisioning and migrations.
• Collaborate with product, SRE, security, and cloud teams on SLAs/SLOs.
