Job summary

Allstate Insurance Company is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the DBaaS program, modernize traditional databases, and advance cloud-native capabilities. You will collaborate with architecture, security, infrastructure, and product teams to deliver scalable, AI-ready database services across the enterprise.

You will mentor engineers, influence roadmaps, and drive automation, IaC, and self-service platforms while ensuring security, reliability, and performance in a large, complex environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 12+ years of experience in database engineering, platform engineering, cloud engineering, infrastructure engineering, or related technical disciplines.
• 5+ years leading large-scale enterprise database platforms, platform engineering initiatives, or modernization programs.
• Deep expertise in enterprise database platforms, including SQL Server and/or Oracle.
• Strong experience with automation, IaC, APIs, DevOps, and platform engineering practices.
• Proven ability to influence enterprise technology strategy, architecture decisions, and senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead the vision, technical strategy, and execution of the DBaaS platform across traditional databases and cloud-native capabilities.
• Serve as hands-on technical leader for database architecture, modernization, and delivery.
• Advance automation, self-service, and IaC to improve delivery, consistency, and reliability.
• Define enterprise standards for security, observability, and resiliency of database platforms.
• Mentor engineers and drive organizational change through influence and leadership.
