Job summary

EPAM Systems is seeking a Lead Database Engineer to own the data tier and deliver resilient, automated recovery across relational, NoSQL, and cloud-native systems. You will design, orchestrate, and validate recovery platforms spanning AWS, GCP, and Azure, aligning DBA practices with infrastructure-as-code.

You will lead recovery automation, coordinate with global teams, and drive PITR and data integrity across a polyglot database stack.

Qualifications

• 5+ years proven production experience with relational, NoSQL, and NewSQL databases.
• Advanced knowledge of SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and MySQL.
• Hands‑on with MongoDB and CockroachDB.
• Strong experience architecting database solutions in AWS, GCP, and Azure.
• Practical skills using cloud storage primitives to build immutable backups and PITR at scale.

Responsibilities

• Design automated recovery architectures for polyglot Persistence layers across databases.
• Lead the team in automated recovery environments and data restoration pipelines.
• Be the primary technical point of contact for nearshore time zones.

We are building a Lead Database Engineer role to own the data tier and deliver resilient, automated recovery capabilities across major database stacks. You will design, orchestrate, and validate recovery platforms spanning relational, NoSQL, and cloud-native systems, aligning DBA practices with infrastructure-as-code on AWS, GCP, and Azure. Responsibilities

• Design and implement automated recovery architectures for polyglot persistence layers across relational, NoSQL, and cloud-native distributed databases
• Guide the team in creating automated "clean room" recovery environments and automated data restoration pipelines
• Serve as the primary technical point of contact for the nearshore time zone
• Collaborate with delivery management, cloud architects, and the offshore engineering team
• Orchestrate and validate automated recovery platforms across a broad ecosystem of database technologies
• Bridge core database administration with automated infrastructure-as-code recovery solutions

Requirements

• Proven production expertise with 5+ years managing and troubleshooting relational, NoSQL, and NewSQL databases
• Advanced knowledge of SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and MySQL
• Hands‑on proficiency with MongoDB and CockroachDB
• Strong experience architecting database solutions in GCP, AWS, and Azure
• Practical skills using cloud storage primitives such as Cloud Storage Buckets, S3, and Blob Storage to build immutable backup architectures
• Demonstrated ability to drive automation with Ansible for configuration management and Jenkins for orchestration pipelines
• Solid understanding of backup verification, point-in-time recovery (PITR) at scale, and air‑gapped storage
• Deep familiarity with data integrity validation practices
• English proficiency at B2 (Upper‑Intermediate) level or higher
