Root Inc. is seeking a Lead Data Scientist I to advance telematics pricing and underwriting models and to strengthen data pipelines. This role blends data science and data engineering to deliver reliable, measurable business outcomes.

The position requires leading price modeling efforts, building scalable data workflows, and partnering with Product, Pricing, Actuarial, and Compliance teams across the US. Compensation includes bonus and equity eligibility.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline (PhD preferred) and/or 5+ years of applying advanced quantitative techniques.
• Strong knowledge of statistical modeling, machine learning, and numerical optimization.
• Exceptional communicator with strong data visualization skills.
• Strong programming in SQL and Python.
• Experience deploying, monitoring, and maintaining production ML models.
• Ownership mindset and ability to steer high-impact work.

• Develop and maintain telematics pricing and underwriting models.

• Deploy, monitor, and productionize models; troubleshoot pipelines and systems.
