United States Steel Corporation is seeking a Lead Data Scientist to lead the organization's data science capability, establish AI standards, and ensure responsible model development and deployment across the enterprise.

This role combines technical leadership, governance oversight, talent development, and stakeholder engagement to drive ethical and effective use of AI, partnering with business leaders to translate opportunities into practical, trusted solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in data science, statistics, mathematics, CS, engineering, OR related field.
• Seven+ years in data science, ML, analytics, or AI roles.
• 3+ years leading teams, projects, or technical professionals.
• Experience developing, validating, deploying predictive models.
• Strong understanding of AI governance and model risk management.
• Ability to communicate complex concepts to executives.

Responsibilities

• Lead governance, model risk management, and responsible AI practices.
• Develop and enforce enterprise AI standards and evaluation criteria.
• Coach and mentor data science teams and oversee projects.
• Engage with executives and stakeholders to identify AI opportunities.
• Build enterprise Data Science Community of Practice and promote reuse.
