Job summary

NiSource is seeking a Lead Data Scientist in Columbus, Ohio. This full-time hybrid role requires deep expertise in data science, ML, and analytics to translate complex data into strategic insights and actionable recommendations.

The Lead Data Scientist will report to the Enterprise Data & Analytics Organization and will build AI/ML models, mentor teammates, and partner with business stakeholders. Salary range is $133,400–$200,100 plus 10% annual bonus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• 7+ years as a data scientist or similar role.
• 7+ years coding in SQL, Python, R, Spark, etc.
• 7+ years experience with ML (NLP, image recognition, Boosted trees, or related).
• Strong knowledge of cloud platform tools and techniques.

Responsibilities

• Serve as an expert translating complex data into key strategy insights and valuable actions.
• Discover insights from data and present them to other data scientists, stakeholders, and leaders at various levels.
• Perform data exploration and data mining.
• Build impactful modeling solutions with AI and Machine Learning techniques.

Salary: $133,400 - $200,100, plus 10% annual bonus

The Lead Data Scientist will report up through the Enterprise Data & Analytics Organization and function as a technical consultant in data science organization in order to:

• Serve as an expert in translating complex data into key strategy insights and valuable actions
• Discover insights from data and present them to other data scientists, business stakeholders, and leaders at various levels
• Perform data exploration and data mining
• Build impactful modeling solutions with AI and Machine Learning techniques

Your additional responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

• Develops advanced ML, AI and statistical models that create value for the organization
• Leads recommendations from ideation to delivery of solution
• Coaches, reviews and delegates work to professionals with less experience
• Works independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations
• Communicate effectively to senior leadership without oversight
• Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures
• Collaborates with Business Clients, establish professional relationships in order to understand business needs

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree
• 7+ years of experience as a data scientist, data analyst, or similar role
• 7+ years of experience coding in statistical and database languages (SQL, Python, R, Spark, etc)
• 7+ years of experience using machine learning such as NLP, image recognition, boosted trees, or related duties
• Strong knowledge of cloud platform tools and techniques

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's Degree or advanced degree in statistics, data science, physics, mathematics, engineering, computer science, or comparable discipline
