Job summary

Palomar is hiring a Senior Data Engineer to lead data pipelines, architecture, and statistical reporting. You will mentor junior engineers and collaborate with actuaries and compliance to deliver robust, scalable data assets and production-ready pipelines.

You will design ELT/ETL workflows, build advanced data models, and ensure data quality, governance, and reliability across the ecosystem while exploring new technologies to improve capabilities and performance.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in data engineering or a related field.
• Advanced proficiency in SQL and Python.
• Experience with modern data warehousing (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery).
• Strong understanding of data modeling, data architecture, and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Experience with orchestration tools (Airflow, dbt, Cloud Composer).
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead technical teams.
• Insurance experience required; statistical reporting experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead Data Pipeline Development: Architect, build, and optimize ELT/ETL pipelines at scale.
• Data Architecture & Modeling: Design advanced data models to support analytics and reporting.
• Statistical Reporting: Partner with Actuarial and Compliance to validate mappings and logic.
• Performance & Reliability: Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve data systems.
• Data Quality & Governance: Implement data quality, validation, and governance processes.
• Collaboration & Leadership: Work with stakeholders and mentor junior engineers.
• Documentation & Standards: Maintain documentation and promote best practices.
• Innovation: Evaluate and adopt new technologies to improve capabilities.
