Palomar Holdings, Inc. in San Diego seeks a Senior Data Engineer to lead design, development, and optimization of scalable data solutions for statistical reporting across direct admitted business, in partnership with Actuarial and Compliance.

You will mentor junior engineers, shape data architecture, ensure reliability, security, and performance, and drive best practices with cross-functional teams. This role is based in San Diego at Palomar.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in data engineering or related field.
• Advanced proficiency in SQL and Python and experience with modern data warehousing.
• Deep understanding of data modeling, data architecture, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Experience with orchestration tools (Airflow, dbt, Cloud Composer).
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead technical teams; insurance experience preferred.
• Statistical reporting experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead data pipeline development: architect, build, and optimize ELT/ETL pipelines.
• Data architecture and modeling to support analytics and reporting.
• Partner with Actuarial and Compliance to build source mappings and transformation logic for filing-ready outputs.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve data systems for performance and reliability.
• Champion data quality, governance, and compliance processes.
