Job summary

Tidewater Community College is seeking an Evening Lead Custodian at the Virginia Beach Campus. Two positions are available to provide senior-level custodial services after normal hours, ensuring clean, safe facilities for students and staff.

Responsibilities include supervising housekeeping tasks, door and window cleaning, floor care, and coordinating with managers to train and evaluate staff. The role is essential and requires reliable attendance.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of janitorial, custodial, and housekeeping practices, including sanitizing techniques and floor/carpet care.
• Knowledge of custodial operations and industry standards.
• Ability to climb ladders without assistance.
• Ability to lift objects not more than 50 lbs.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Experience as a shift leader in janitorial/custodial operations.

Responsibilities

• Provide custodial/housekeeping services across college facilities: trash removal, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, sweeping, floor stripping/waxing, carpet cleaning, window cleaning, and boards cleaning.
• Assist with room setup/takedown as assigned and maintain good attendance.
• Report issues to Managers and assist Custodial Manager in selecting, training, supervising and evaluating staff.
• This is an essential position and may require reporting during campus closures.
• Engage in other duties as assigned and may support emergency operations as needed.

Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 25,000 students in 2024-25. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. This is one recruitment to fill 2 positions.

Provides a full range of custodial/ housekeeping services for college facilities to include, but not limited to, trash removal, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, sweeping, floor stripping and waxing, carpet cleaning, window cleaning, black/white-board cleaning, etc. Provides room set-up/take-down assistance as assigned. Performs other cleaning tasks as assigned. Maintain and demonstrate good attendance habits. Reports any problems to Managers when necessary. Assist Custodial Manager in selecting, training, supervising and evaluating other housekeepers.

This position has been designated an essential position. The employee filling this position may be required to report to work or otherwise fulfill the responsibilities of the position in the event of a college/ campus closure due to weather or other emergent condition(s).

These positions are restricted funding.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
