Responsibilities

• Provides a full range of custodial/ housekeeping services including trash removal, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, floor care, carpet cleaning, and window cleaning.
• Performs room set-up/take-down as assigned and assists with other cleaning tasks as needed.
• Maintains good attendance and reports problems to Managers when necessary.
• Assists Custodial Manager in selecting, training, supervising and evaluating other housekeepers.

Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads - both students and employers - for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 25,000 students in 2024-25. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. Provides a full range of custodial/ housekeeping services for college facilities to include, but not limited to, trash removal, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, sweeping, floor stripping and waxing, carpet cleaning, window cleaning, black/white-board cleaning, etc. Provides room set-up/take-down assistance as assigned. Performs other cleaning tasks as assigned. Maintain and demonstrate good attendance habits. Reports any problems to Managers when necessary. Assist Custodial Manager in selecting, training, supervising and evaluating other housekeepers.

This position has been designated an essential position. The employee filling this position may be required to report to work or otherwise fulfill the responsibilities of the position in the event of a college/ campus closure due to weather or other emergent condition(s).

Minimum Qualifications

• Working knowledge of the principles and practices of janitorial, custodial, and housekeeping services, sanitizing techniques to include floor and carpet care and maintneance.
• Knowledge of custodial operations and industry standards
• Ability to climb ladders without assistance
• Ability to lift objects not more than 50 lbs
• Valid driver's license
• Experience in a janitorial, custodial, or housekeeping operations as a shift leader .

Additional Considerations

• Experience within a multi-building housekeeping operation
• Experience in a college or university environment.
