A Brief Overview
Works with the CT Manager to ensure the efficient daily operation of the CT scan department. Assigns resources as needed.

What you will do

  • Assures quality control procedures on all computers and imaging equipment are performed.
  • Establishes patient flow priorities within accepted guidelines ensuring minimal patient delays for both inpatients and outpatients.
  • Reviews chart for patient readiness and proper exam preparation. Reviews chart for proper exam in physician’s orders and documentation of signed consent.
  • Schedules cases to coordinate with other patient exams.
  • Maintains stock and supply levels for all CT procedures.
  • Maintains personal monitoring of radiation exposure at all times and in event of pregnancy in coordination with the Senior Nuclear Medicine Technician and Radiation Safety officer.
  • Works with CT Manager to prepare for CT ACR Accreditation.
  • Protects self and patients from injury and unnecessary radiation through direct visual observation.
  • Maintains an orderly, safe and clean working environment.
  • Troubleshoots any problems that occur with equipment before calling for service.
  • Participates on various committees as requested including Department Quality Control and Radiology PI Committee. Provides valuable input when possible.
  • Assists with updating the clinical CT Scanning procedure manual as needed.
  • Maintains communication with CT Manager to oversee updated CT Scan protocols.
  • Selects and orders proper supplies.
  • Assures that all work areas are kept clean and well supplied.
  • Attends seminars and conferences in order to maintain current technology and to be in compliance with continued education credits.
  • Allocates personnel to satisfy workload demands in most efficient manner.
  • Responsible for maintaining QC for CT Equipment.
  • Assists in developing new exam codes.
  • Maintains and respects confidentiality.
  • Assists and transports patients in emergency situations to designated areas. Arranges for transportation to and from nursing units.
  • Utilizes time in an effective manner.
  • Adjusts personal schedule in case of fluctuations in workload of the department.
  • Conducts staff meetings with CT staff technologists.
  • Reports any opportunities for improvement to CT Manager.
  • Reports any suggestions or positive changes to CT Manager.
  • Utilizes the PACS/RIS systems.
  • Assures that CT technologists meet criteria for performance and job duties set forth in position description.
  • Incorporates physiological and developmental age of patients into overall plan for delivery of care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Education Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved school of x-ray technology required.


Experience Qualifications

  • 4-6 years post-licensure experience with advanced CT certification through the ARRT required.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Responsibilities may require an adjusted work schedule, overtime and evening/weekend hours in order to meet the operational needs of the Department and/or the Hospital.
  • Responsibilities will require the ability to read, write and rationally comprehend the English language.
  • Must be able to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team to ensure that quality service is provided to clients and physicians.
  • Utilizing any or all Hospital provided equipment and/or safe work procedures; employee shall be required to lift all objects as is practicable.
  • The employee must be able to perform the physical requirements of this job, including but not limited to, standing, walking, reaching with arms and hands, climbing, balancing. Must be able to stoop, kneel and/or crouch.
  • Demonstrates ability to recognize priorities and deal with them promptly.


Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified Cat Scan Technologist - current valid NJ license upon hire required.
  • ARRT Radiography Certification - advanced CT certification upon hire required.
