Job summary

The Kraft Group & Affiliates in Worcester, MA is seeking a Lead Operator to oversee corrugated manufacturing operations, train new hires, and uphold safety and quality standards.

You will coach a small team, address efficiency and process issues, coordinate shift handovers, and collaborate with plant leadership to implement new procedures and maintain production goals.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2-4 years of machine operation experience in a corrugated manufacturing facility.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and lead a small team.
  • Ability to read a tape measure to 1/16".
  • Ability to understand basic mathematics including decimals.
  • Attention to detail and focused concentration.
  • Meet production quotas and adhere to protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Lead on-the-floor training for all new hires or transfers within the department.
  • Provide coaching for experienced operators who fail to follow proper protocols or are not operating at peak efficiency.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for your department answering questions on operations from other employees.
  • Work closely with plant leadership on ensuring implementation of new processes and procedures.
  • Report any and all efficiency, quality, or production concerns to their department supervisors and managers.
  • Model compliance with company policies and procedures, including safe and efficient machine operation.
  • Assist in coordinating shift handovers including ensuring a clean production floor and informing supervisor/manager of incomplete jobs.
  • Provide coverage for breaks and absences in the corrugator department.
  • Review work schedule, check equipment and supplies required to perform the work scheduled.
  • Clean area throughout the shift, secure equipment and complete required paperwork.
  • Help assist or operate machinery to expected performance levels.
  • Assist with machinery operations during upset conditions.
  • Help meet or exceed production, waste and quality goals.
  • Assist crew members and work in team environment.
  • Adhere to all plant safety and environmental guidelines.
  • Special projects and assignments as business dictates

Summary

Leads combine technical expertise with leadership responsibilities to maintain production efficiency, support team development, and uphold safety and quality standards. The Lead Operator is responsible for completing their normally assigned tasks as well as higher level responsibilities assigned by the company outlined below.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead on-the-floor training for all new hires or transfers within the department. This includes all machines or job functions within the department
  • Provide coaching for experienced operators who fail to follow proper protocols or are not operating at peak efficiency
  • Act as a subject matter expert for your department answering questions on operations from other employees
  • Work closely with plant leadership on ensuring implementation of new processes and procedures the company puts in place
  • Report any and all efficiency, quality, or production concerns to their department supervisors and managers

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • High-school diploma or equivalent required

  • Must be able to adhere to process protocol and must be able to apply established protocols in a timely manner.
