Lead Correctional Officer I - Orange Correctional Center

Responsibilities

This position is located at Orange Correctional Center in Hillsborough, NC. Orange County. Orange Correctional Center is a male minimum custody facility. Reporting to the Correctional Sergeant I, this position is responsible for supervision of offenders and staff. The responsibilities include:

  • Ensure the care, custody, and control of offenders.
  • Tour assigned areas, which may require climbing stairs.
  • Observe offender activity in person and on monitors.
  • Identify offenders with behavioral, medical, or other issues for safety and security measures.
  • Perform security duties to prevent escapes, disorder, rule infractions, and harm.
  • Search offenders, visitors, cells, and areas for weapons and contraband.
  • Monitor and regulate offender and staff movement.
  • Maintain and record offender counts, cell assignments, and relevant information.
  • Escort offenders within and outside the facility.
  • Use and maintain keys and equipment.
  • Supervise offender work details.
  • Provide custody supervision in restrictive housing areas, including Segregation units.
  • Enforce safety, health, and protection rules.

This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) with State Benefits. The candidate may work any shift, including weekends and holidays, to ensure 24/7 coverage.

Effective January 1, 2025, new salary adjustments will be in place, with ranges from $37,621 to $48,953.
