Cedarhurst of La Vista, a regional healthcare provider and true friend of older adults, seeks a service-minded, career-oriented individual to join our team as a Sous Chef/Lead Cook at our Cedarhurst of La Vista community.
As a Sous Chef/Lead Cook, you will have the opportunity to connect with, and positively impact the lives of, our residents daily! You will assist the Dining Services Director in managing daily kitchen activities.
Working with the Dining Services Director, you will impact the lives of our residents by:
- Overseeing and organizing kitchen stock and inventory levels in the absence of the Dining Services Director
- Maintaining kitchen organization in collaboration with the Dining Services Director
- Assisting in orientation and ongoing training of the dining team
- Instructing staff on operation, maintenance, and cleaning of dining services equipment
- Providing hands-on training and ensuring proper food handling and safety procedures
- Ensuring food is properly prepared, portioned, and served, maintaining quality standards
- Keeping current with food safety licensing requirements for local, state, and county authorities
- Documenting temperature logs, sanitation logs, and cleaning schedules accurately
- Supporting catering, room service, and special event needs
- Understanding all dining service shifts and resident dining needs
- Covering shifts in the absence of the Dining Services Director
- Developing schedules and placing orders as needed
- Participating in community leadership meetings
- Implementing Cedarhurst of La Vista dining programs
- Maintaining safety standards and infection control protocols
- Utilizing basic mathematical concepts for daily operations
- Ensuring food temperature safety and proper equipment functioning
- Communicating effectively with residents’ families about their care
- Collaborating with team members and managing conflicts professionally
- Performing physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds independently and up to 200 pounds with assistance
- Performing other duties as assigned
To qualify as a Sous Chef/Lead Cook, you will need:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- At least two years of culinary production experience
- Formal culinary training (preferred)
- Food Manager Certification (preferred or ability to obtain)
- Applicable state/county licensure (preferred)
- CPR or BLS certification (preferred)
- Proficiency in Internet browsers, Microsoft Office, EHR systems, and HR systems if applicable
