Job summary

City of Hope in Irvine, CA is seeking a Lead Cook to accurately and efficiently prepare, portion, cook, and present a variety of hot and cold items for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and events. Under on-site management you will coordinate kitchen staff, maintain safety standards, and ensure timely service.

Qualifications include a high school diploma, 3–5 years in food service, Serv-Safe certification or eligibility, and knowledge of equipment operation and cash handling.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years or more of related work experience.
  • Serv-Safe Food Handler (may acquire after hired, within 90 days)
  • Preferably: Knowledge of basic operation of equipment and cash-handling procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise day-to-day activities of subordinates and assign responsibilities; maintain open/close procedures.
  • Monitor employee productivity and suggest improvements for service or efficiency.
  • Work with customers to ensure satisfaction in quality, service and problem resolution.
  • Perform day-to-day kitchen tasks in addition to supervision duties.
  • Lead orientation and training of staff; support team development.
  • Clean and sanitize work stations and equipment; follow safety rules.
  • Attend allergy and foodborne illness training; participate in safety meetings.
  • May assist with inventory and movement of food and supplies.
  • Report accidents and injuries per policy.

The Lead Cook will accurately and efficiently prepare, portion, cook, and present a variety of hot and/or cold food items for various meal periods: to include Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Special/Catered Events. This individual, under the leadership of on-site management and/or supervisors, will coordinate the activities of workers and/or service employees.

The general responsibilities of the position include those listed below, but City of Hope may identify other responsibilities of the position.

As a successful candidate, you will:
  • Responsible for the supervision of day-to-day activities of subordinates and assigns responsibility for specific work or functional activities as directed by management. Maintains key control of operations and responsible for activities to ensure opening, closing and daily procedures are completed.
  • Assists in monitoring employee productivity and provides suggestions for increased service or productivity.
  • Works with customers to ensure satisfaction in such areas as quality, service and problem resolution.
  • Performs day-to-day assignments in addition to supervision duties.
  • Responsible for orientation and training of employees. Takes an interest and initiative in the development of the foodservice team.
  • May clean and sanitize work stations and equipment and must follow all City of Hope and regulatory rules and procedures.
  • Attends all allergy and foodborne illness in-service training. Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments. Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
  • May receive inventory and move/lift foodstuffs and supplies.
  • Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures and reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
Your qualifications should include:
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years or more of related work experience.
  • Serv-Safe Food Handler (may acquire after hired, within 90 days)
  • Preferably:Knowledge of basic operation of equipment and cash-handling procedures.
