Job summary

Brooke Glen Behavioral Hospital is seeking a Lead Cook to oversee all food production for patients, staff, and visitors. The role ensures high standards of quality, safety, and sanitation while coordinating dietary staff and maintaining alignment with hospital policies.

The position requires 3–5 years of lead cook experience and a SERV Safe certification, with responsibilities ranging from meal preparation to staff mentoring and inventory control.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency required.
  • 3–5 years direct, relevant experience as a lead cook in a professional food service environment.
  • SERV Safe Certification (or equivalent food safety certification).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee timely meal preparation and all food production for service periods.
  • Sweep and mop floors daily.
  • Adhere to sanitation and safety guidelines.
  • Communicate about diet changes, allergies, and special meal needs.
  • Follow safety and infection control procedures and wear gloves as required.
  • Maintain kitchen inventory, minimize waste, and ensure proper storage.
  • Assist with short-staffed shifts.
  • Train new dietary staff and mentor current kitchen staff.
  • Communicate with dietary supervisor.
  • Inspect deliveries for quality and accuracy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Position Summary

Lead Cook prepares food and dessert items and directly oversees all food production for service to patients, staff, and visitors. Lead Cook provides supervision and coordination of dietary staff to maintain high standards of quality food production, safety, sanitation, and service in accordance with established policies and procedures and in a manner consistent with the philosophy and objectives of Brooke Glen Behavioral Hospital.

Qualifications

Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalency required. 3–5 years of direct, relevant experience as a lead cook in a professional food service environment. SERV Safe Certification (or equivalent food safety certification)

Cook Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible for timely preparation of meals and oversight of all food production for scheduled meal periods.
  • Sweeps and mops floor on a daily basis.
  • Complies with established guidelines for sanitation and safety.
  • Communicate effectively regarding diet changes, allergies, and meal service special needs.
  • Practices safety and infection control procedures when performing duties. Wears gloves in accordance with department procedures and changes gloves after each task.
  • Maintain kitchen inventory; help minimize waste and ensure proper food storage.
  • Assist with short‑staffed shifts.
  • Train new dietary staff and mentor current kitchen staff; provide guidance and support to dietary staff through example.
  • Communicate with dietary supervisor.
  • Inspect all deliveries for quality and accuracy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned/required by this position.
