Job summary

Tigg's Canteen Services is seeking a Permanent Full-Time Lead Cook for Jackson County Jail in Jackson, MI. This role leads daily kitchen operations and supervises inmates to ensure meals meet our standards in a controlled, correctional environment.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or equivalent, can lift up to 50 pounds, and is available weekends and holidays. Training is provided to the right candidate, supporting a dependable food service team.

Responsibilities

Compensation & Benefits

Position Responsibilities

As a Lead Cook, you will help oversee daily kitchen operations and ensure meals are prepared and served according to company standards. Responsibilities include:

• Leading, directing, and assisting inmates with kitchen duties
• Preparing, cooking, and baking meals according to company recipes
• Assisting with daily meal preparation and food service operations
• Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment
• Following company policies, food safety standards, and facility procedures
• Supporting the kitchen team to ensure meals are prepared efficiently and on schedule

Qualifications & Requirements

Successful candidates must meet the following requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Ability to work effectively in a structured correctional environment
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Availability to work weekends and holidays
• Flexibility to work varying shifts between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM
• Ability to follow company recipes, policies, and procedures
• Must successfully obtain clearance to work within the facility

Previous food service or kitchen experience is preferred but not required. Tigg's Canteen Services is willing to train the right candidate!
