Job summary

NR Consulting seeks a Lead Controls Engineer to provide technical leadership for industrial automation and plant-floor control systems. The role emphasizes PLC programming/troubleshooting, SCADA/HMI, automated production equipment, and controls modernization to enhance reliability.

The candidate will have strong PLC skills, ladder logic, I/O mapping, and experience with Schneider Electric/Modicon, Ignition, iFix, and vision systems from Keyence, Cognex, and SICK.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
• 6+ years of controls/industrial automation or related experience.
• Strong PLC programming and troubleshooting experience.
• Experience with SCADA, HMI, SQL, scripting, and industrial networks.
• Strong knowledge of ladder logic, structured programming, I/O mapping, and electrical schematics.
• Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead PLC/controls troubleshooting, programming, commissioning, and upgrades.
• Support Schneider Electric/Modicon PLCs, including legacy and newer systems.
• Troubleshoot conveyors, motors/drives, sensors, photo eyes, interlocks, and material-handling equipment.
• Support SCADA/HMI systems, including Ignition and iFix.
• Troubleshoot industrial networks and communications between PLCs, scanners, HMIs, and field devices.
• Integrate and troubleshoot Keyence, Cognex, and SICK scanning/vision systems.
• Develop, test, modify, and implement controls solutions and specifications.
• Provide technical direction, documentation, and support to cross-functional teams.
• Diagnose root causes across controls, electrical, communications, and equipment.
