Job summary

Wunderlich-Malec Engineering (WM) has a Controls Engineer opportunity in Lakewood, CO. The selected candidate will design, implement, and manage Rockwell control systems for large oil and gas capital projects, with involvement in life sciences and building automation.

The role requires proficiency with Rockwell, PlantPAx preferred, and knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems. Occasional travel up to 50% for on-site support and commissioning.

Qualifications

• 5-10 years of hands-on experience with Rockwell Automation, Honeywell, Emerson DeltaV and similar systems.
• Experience on Oil and Gas projects.
• Strong experience in class-based configuration and design.
• Knowledge of automation protocols (HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus, Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, OPC UA, IO-Link).
• Industrial networking knowledge for communication between controllers, servers, and HMIs.
• Experience in integrating electrical and process control systems.
• Experience specifying and designing electrical components (MCCs, VFDs, panels, and power distribution).
• Knowledge of server infrastructure and virtualization technologies for robust deployments.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement Rockwell control systems for complex oil and gas capital projects.
• Develop project schedules, budgets, and resources to ensure on-time and within-budget delivery.
• Lead system architecture development and control strategies to enhance manufacturing efficiency.
• Develop electrical designs including power distribution, panel layouts, and grounding for automation.
• Specify and procure instrumentation and hardware components.
• Design and implement industrial networking solutions (Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP, Profibus, etc.).
• Integrate 3rd party equipment using OPC UA, Ethernet/IP, and Modbus.
• Define computing infrastructure requirements including server architecture and cybersecurity.
• Develop FAT and SAT acceptance protocols and manage testing.
• Travel up to 50% for on-site support and commissioning.
