Job summary

Hargrove Engineers & Constructors in Birmingham, Alabama is seeking a senior Controls & Automation engineer to lead design, programming, testing, and startup of automation projects. You will mentor staff and drive technical decisions under general supervision.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in industrial controls, PE registration preferred, and strong knowledge of ISA S88, IEC 61131, and field instrumentation. This role offers growth within a global engineering team.

Qualifications

• Experience designing, implementing, testing, FAT/SAT, deployment, and startup for automation projects.
• Knowledge of ISA S88 standards and programming.
• Experience with IEC 61131 languages and standards.
• Familiarity with OSHA 1910.119 Management of Change.
• Ability to read vendor equipment drawings and produce installation docs.

Responsibilities

• Lead or contribute as technical leader on projects.
• Provide on-site startup support.
• Mentor younger engineers and specialists.
• Produce control system architecture designs and BOMs at estimate level.
• Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies.
• Review vendor and discipline drawings for controls input.
• Estimate professional service hours and monitor progress.
• Develop design criteria and scope of work.
• Lead a small team to deliver on commitments.
