Job summary

Woolpert, Inc. is hiring a Construction Survey Crew Chief in Ohio. This role leads field survey crews in construction staking, layout, and as-built documentation for site development projects, ensuring accuracy, safety, and adherence to standards.

You will interpret engineering plans and operate survey equipment, coordinating daily with project managers and subcontractors to support construction sequencing and data processing.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate or Bachelor's degree in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering, or related field is advantageous.
• Experience with construction staking workflows and tolerances.
• Proficient in operating survey instruments and software (total stations, GNSS, data collectors).
• Ability to travel overnight and work overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

• Lead survey field crew performing construction staking and layout for roads, utilities, grading, structures, and site improvements.
• Interpret engineering plans, digital terrain models, and construction documents to translate design into field layout.
• Operate and maintain survey equipment (total stations, GNSS, laser scanners, levels, data collectors).
• Prepare detailed field notes and sketches to document survey activities.
• Establish and maintain horizontal and vertical control to support construction activities.
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of layout points, stakes, and deliverables per project tolerances.
• Conduct as-built surveys and document completed work for project closeout and QA.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, superintendents, and subcontractors for field issues.
• Review and manage field data, ensuring proper coding and transfer to office staff.
