Job summary

LHH is partnering with a large specialty contractor to hire a Lead Project Accountant who will head full-cycle project accounting for large construction projects and supervise junior staff.

The role requires 6+ years in accounting, construction experience, and a strong grasp of job costing, WIP, AIA billings, and financial reporting. You will drive process improvements and collaborate with Project Managers to manage risk.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent experience.
• 6+ years of accounting experience, ideally in construction/project-based industries.
• Prior supervisory experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of project accounting, job costing, WIP, AIA billings, percentage of completion, and financial reporting.
• Experience with large projects ($60m+) preferred.
• Familiarity with contracts, lien requirements, compliance, and change order workflows.
• Proficiency with accounting software and Excel; knowledge of Sage/Viewpoint/Procore is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of project accountants across multiple construction projects.
• Coordinate and oversee all phases of construction job costing, including categorizing, recording, analyzing, and monitoring costs and billings.
• Ensure accurate and timely financial transactions, internal controls, and adherence to policies.
• Develop financial reporting standards and prepare regular and ad-hoc project reports for leadership.
• Partner with Project Managers to identify financial risks and support sound decision-making.
• Lead initiatives to implement new policies, procedures, systems, and process improvements for project accounting.
