Job description

Overview

Lead Construction Inspector - Water/Wastewater. This on-site position is based in New York City and reports to a Resident Engineer. The role requires independent fieldwork, communication of issues and solutions, participation in project progress meetings, and thorough documentation of contractor work and field conditions.

Responsibilities

• Communicate effectively with inspectors, contractors, engineers, and project managers to resolve issues or discrepancies.
• Perform quality assurance inspections to ensure compliance with contract plans, specifications, and industry standards.
• Monitor and inspect contractor work to ensure proper construction methods, quality, and safety standards.
• Review construction plans, specifications, submittals, drawings, change orders, and RFIs to confirm field adherence to contract requirements.
• Prepare and maintain documentation including inspection logs, daily reports, digital photographs, force account records, contractor pay estimate notes and quantities, and materials testing records.
• Identify and document contractor work that is out of compliance or deficient and ensure prompt corrective actions.
• Attend and participate in pre-installation, pre-construction, and periodic construction meetings as required.
• Utilize Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Bluebeam, Trimble Unity Construct, and other relevant software to summarize findings, analyze data, and track progress.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management or engineering OR relevant project experience in lieu of education
• 5+ years of water/wastewater and/or facilities inspection and construction management experience
• Knowledge of construction practices, characteristics of drainage and utility systems construction materials, and approved methods and equipment for testing construction materials
• Experience working on NYCDEP projects
• Familiarity with large-scale construction projects with multiple contractors and consultants
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Ability to walk construction sites, including slopes, ladders, scaffolding and other temporary structures
• Valid driver’s license with good driving history
