Job summary

Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is seeking a lead inspector to oversee subordinate inspectors on construction projects in all phases. The role requires self-motivation, ability to interpret unforeseen conditions, and participation in DOTD training and education programs.

The incumbent will serve as DOTD's principal representative on construction projects, supervise a team of inspectors, and ensure conformance with contract documents, plans, and specifications.

Qualifications

• Possession of four years of experience in construction inspection or experience in maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways, or associated structures; OR
• Six months of sub-professional engineering experience plus four years of construction inspection or maintenance experience; OR
• Twenty-four semester hours in specified fields; OR
• A bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management, or construction technology; OR
• Possession of an engineer intern certificate.

Responsibilities

• Serves as a primary lead worker in a DOTD Project Engineer's Office and is responsible for contract administration on various roadways, bridges, or other public works projects.
• Quality assurance inspections of contractors’ work to ensure conformance with contract documents, plans and specifications by providing functional supervision of a team of subordinate engineering technicians and inspectors.
• DOTD's principal representative on construction projects with frequent contact with contractor personnel, other DOTD or FHWA employees, and the public; exercise independent judgment based on broad knowledge of Department construction specifications, policies, and standards.
• Lead worker and functional supervisor for daily project operations.

Education

Bachelor's degree in engineering/engineering technology/construction management/construction technology

Engineer intern certificate

High school diploma or GED + 4 years construction inspection experience

24 semester hours in architecture/cartography/construction management/construction technology/drafting/engineering/engineering graphics/engineering technology/industrial technology/landscape architecture/math/physics
