Job summary

Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) invites applications to supervise a team of construction inspectors, reporting to the Project Engineer. The role requires meeting one of several qualifying paths, including education or years of experience in construction inspection, or engineering credentials.

Qualifications

• Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus five years of construction inspection experience.
• Six months of sub-professional engineering or heavy equipment operation plus five years of construction inspection experience.
• Thirty semester hours in specified fields or a related degree.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field, or engineer intern certificate.

Responsibilities

• Serves as a team leader over a group of DOTD employees engaged in inspection, surveying and sampling & testing on various construction projects.
• Manages major and minor projects and inspects contractor work for compliance with plans and specifications (e.g., roadway/bridges).
• Collaborates with contractor supervisory personnel to ensure compliance; performs calculations for areas, weights and volumes for bridges and roadways.

Education

High school diploma or GED plus five years of experience in construction inspection

Six months of sub-professional engineering, heavy equipment operation, or equipment maintenance plus five years of construction inspection

Thirty semester hours in architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics

Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management, or construction technology
