Job summary

Con Edison is seeking a Communications Field Engineer for system performance and infrastructure in New York. The role focuses on designing, deploying, and maintaining telecom infrastructure including optical fiber, microwave, and RF systems essential for mission-critical operations across the service territory.

Responsibilities include incident response, collaboration with multiple teams, and ensuring reliability, compliance, and lifecycle upgrades.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with IT/telecom/engineering focus and 3+ years in IT/telecom design or operations, or equivalent experience.
• Experience with fiber optics, DWDM/OTN, and optical networks is required.
• Experience with microwave and RF systems, IP networking, and cybersecurity principles is required.
• Oversight of contracts, SLAs, KPIs, and vendor management is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer optical fiber, microwave, and RF systems.
• Oversee operation, reliability, and performance of critical telecom systems including UPS, generators, and cooling.
• Manage vendors and ensure performance aligns with SLAs and standards.
• Develop governance, metrics, and reporting for operations and quality assurance.
• Coordinate with engineering, IT, vendors, and project teams for new builds and upgrades.
• Plan capacity, risk, and resiliency for critical infrastructure.
