Job summary

Consolidated Edison Company of New York is seeking a Communications Field Engineer to design, deploy, troubleshoot, and maintain telecom infrastructure including optical fiber, microwave, and RF systems. This role ensures reliable, compliant networks supporting mission-critical operations across the service territory.

You will lead design reviews, oversee vendors, manage budgets, and coordinate with IT, engineering, and field teams.

Qualifications

• Experience with fiber optics, splicing, testing, and optical networks (DWDM/OTN).
• Experience with microwave and RF systems including antennas and propagation.
• Knowledge of IP networking (routing, switching, MPLS).
• Cybersecurity principles for secure IT infrastructure operations.
• Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance for critical systems.
• Oversight of service contracts, SLAs, KPIs, and performance metrics.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer optical fiber, microwave, and RF systems.
• Oversee operation, reliability, and performance, including UPS and cooling systems.
• Manage vendors and contractors to meet SLAs and standards.
• Establish governance, metrics, and reporting for operations.
• Coordinate with engineering, IT, vendors, and project teams for builds and retrofits.
• Perform incident response and root cause analysis for critical failures.
