Karman Industries seeks a Lead Engineer to drive the design, development, and qualification of CO₂ heat exchangers, including PCHEs, gas coolers, and electronics cooling. The role combines hands‑on technical leadership with individual contribution, setting direction and collaborating with manufacturing to move designs from prototype to high‑volume production.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of heat exchanger design experience, from concept to fielded product.
• Strong thermodynamics and two‑phase/supercritical flow knowledge.
• Experience with compact heat exchangers (PCHE, microchannel, plate‑fin, brazed).
• Knowledge of high‑pressure design codes and pressure equipment compliance.
• Experience transitioning designs from prototype to volume production.
• Ability to lead in fast‑growth/scale‑up environments.
• Demonstrated technical leadership and cross‑team alignment.
• Ability to work onsite in the Los Angeles area.

Responsabilités

• Own thermal and hydraulic design of CO₂ heat exchangers across full operating envelope.
• Evaluate exchanger technologies for each duty based on performance, cost, size, weight, manufacturability.
• Lead electronics cooling and cold plate design and integration with cooling loop.
• Develop and validate rating and sizing models; link to cycle COP and facility efficiency.
• Guide prototype‑to‑production process: specs, supplier selection, design reviews.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and suppliers to scale production and ensure manufacturability.
• Own pressure equipment compliance (ASME VIII, ASME B31.5, CO₂ refrigerant requirements).
• Design for field conditions: shipping, packaging, transients, fouling, serviceability.
• Support customer discussions on exchanger performance and design choices.
• Recruit and mentor engineers; establish engineering standards for heat exchanger team.
