Job summary

GMI General Machine is seeking a senior CNC programmer to own all CNC programming from customer drawings through production. You will be the go-to engineering resource for customers, turning sketches and worn parts into production-ready parts.

You’ll set standards, collaborate on design changes, and help quote and bill projects while growing with the company. You’ll work on mills, lathes, horizontal boring mills, and plasma/laser/waterjet equipment, with Nesting in ProNest and modeling in

Qualifications

  • CNC programming expertise in a job shop or fabrication setting.
  • Strong ability to read drawings and GD&T.
  • Experience with wear-resistant materials and heavy plate machining.
  • Comfortable on the shop floor and on calls with customers.
  • Excellent problem-solving and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Program CNC equipment (mills, lathes, boring mill, plasma/laser, waterjet).
  • Build and optimize nests in ProNest.
  • Convert customer sketches and worn parts into production models in SolidWorks/Inventor.
  • Collaborate with customer engineers on design changes and wear-life improvements.
  • Plan projects, track hours for quoting and billing.
  • Review RFQs and drawings for manufacturability before quoting.
  • Establish programming standards and verify programs on machine.
  • Assist with equipment/software selection as we grow.

We're putting real money into technology on the shop floor and want someone who will help us use it well.The RoleYou'll own all CNC programming at GMI, from the first look at a customer drawing to the proven program running on the floor. You'll also be our go-to engineering resource for customers. More of them are asking us to design parts, reverse engineer worn components, and fix problems they can't solve in-house. This role is how we say yes to that work and bill for it. You report to the General Manager.What You'll DoProgram all CNC equipment: mills, lathes, horizontal boring mill, plasma/laser table, waterjetBuild and optimize nests in ProNest to cut plate waste and burn timeTurn customer sketches, samples, and worn parts into production-ready models and drawings in SolidWorks and InventorWork directly with customer engineers on design changes, wear-life improvements, and new part developmentScope engineering projects and track your hours so we can quote and bill the work accuratelyReview RFQs and drawings with estimating.
