Job summary

Jobtailor in the United States seeks a senior Azure GovCloud architect to lead design, implementation, and governance of IL5/IL6 compliant environments across NIPR and SIPR workloads.

You will own cloud security posture with Defender for Cloud, ACAS, and STIG scanning, drive DR/BCP strategies, mentor the infrastructure team, and communicate status to stakeholders while shaping CI/CD and IaC practices.

Qualifications

• 8+ years hands-on experience in Azure cloud operations, with 5+ years in Azure GovCloud (IL5/IL6).
• Bachelor’s or higher in Engineering, Science, or IT.
• CompTIA Security+ certification.
• Deep knowledge of IL5/IL6, STIG, ACAS, and FISMA compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, implementation, and governance of Azure GovCloud IL5/IL6 compliant environments.
• Own cloud security posture using Defender for Cloud, ACAS, STIG scanning, and continuous compliance monitoring.
• Architect and manage disaster recovery and business continuity across NIPR/SIPR with regular testing.
• Mentor and coach Cloud Engineers; manage DevOps project boards and stories.
• Provide weekly infrastructure briefs to stakeholders; own SLA for managed applications; drive incident analysis.
• Oversee patching, vulnerability mitigation, and monitoring across NIPR/SIPR environments.
• Optimize cost and performance using Azure Cost Management, Advisor, and Policy.
• Lead IaC strategy with Terraform, ARM templates, and Azure CLI; own CI/CD pipelines.

Job description

• Lead the design, implementation, and governance of Azure GovCloud environments to ensure IL5/IL6 compliance across all systems and workloads
• Own and enforce cloud security posture using Microsoft Defender for Cloud, ACAS, STIG scanning, and continuous compliance monitoring to maintain federal security standards
• Architect and manage disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity (BCP) strategies across all environments (NIPR/SIPR), including regular testing and validation of recovery objectives
• Manage the infrastructure team’s DevOps project board and story-boards, while mentoring and coaching Cloud Engineers and support staff
• Provide weekly infrastructure briefs to the Information Owner and other stakeholders to keep them informed of status and trends
• Own the SLA for all managed applications, driving incident response and root-cause analysis
• Oversee patching, vulnerability mitigation, and monitoring across NIPR/SIPR environments
• Optimize cost and performance using Azure Cost Management, Advisor, and Policy
• Lead the IaC strategy using Terraform, ARM templates, and Azure CLI
• Own Azure DevOps pipelines, GitLab integration, and CI/CD best practices, while driving automation of secure data transfers between NIPR and SIPR storage
• Liaise with government stakeholders, auditors, and vendors, translating technical requirements into business-friendly language to ensure clear communication and alignment

Requirements

• 8+ years of hands‑on experience in Azure cloud operations, with 5+ years in Azure GovCloud (IL5/IL6)
• Bachelor’s or higher in Engineering, Science, or IT
• CompTIA Security+ certification
• Deep knowledge of IL5/IL6, STIG, ACAS, and FISMA compliance
• Experience with Azure Defender, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, and vulnerability management
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder‑management skills
