Job summary

Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is seeking a Construction Area Engineer to direct Project Engineers and Inspectors across multiple counties. You will process change orders, provide engineering direction, and participate in field checks to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.

You will train and evaluate staff, set contract times, and help develop policies. A PE license in Indiana and a valid driver’s license are required; degree not required if extensive experience.

Qualifications

• Licensed Professional Engineer in Indiana required.
• Must possess a valid Indiana driver’s license.
• Broad knowledge of civil/transportation disciplines; reading plans and specs.
• Knowledge of CAD, spreadsheets, databases, and scheduling.

Responsibilities

• Develop engineering policies and plans for major projects with statewide impact.
• Provide budgetary information and support long-range planning.
• Evaluate policies, revise and implement engineering standards.
• Direct and inspect projects to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
• Train and evaluate assigned personnel; set contract times.
