Placements24 is seeking a Lead Civil Engineer to spearhead infrastructure projects in and around George. This hybrid role blends strategic planning and hands-on design, with occasional site visits to ensure delivery of civil works in public and private sectors.

You will lead engineers and technicians, ensure quality, safety and environmental standards, and mentor junior staff. The role requires a BEng/BSc in Civil Engineering, 7+ years of infrastructure experience, and professional registration

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in civil engineering from a recognized institution.
• 7+ years of progressive civil infrastructure experience.
• Professional Engineer registration or eligibility (Pr Eng).
• Proficiency in Civil 3D and AutoCAD.
• Experience in contract administration and project management.
• Understanding of SA construction and environmental legislation.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, planning and execution of roads, bridges, water systems and site development.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers and drafters.
• Conduct site investigations, feasibility studies, and prepare reports and tender documents.
• Ensure designs and construction comply with codes, standards and environmental rules.
• Collaborate with clients, regulators, contractors and stakeholders to meet milestones.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dynamic and experienced Lead Civil Engineer to spearhead critical infrastructure projects in and around George . This hybrid role offers the opportunity to blend strategic planning and design with occasional site visits, ensuring the successful delivery of public and private sector civil engineering works. You will lead a team of engineers and technicians, providing technical guidance and ensuring projects meet stringent quality, safety, and environmental standards. Your expertise will be vital in shaping the future of infrastructure in the region, contributing to projects that have a lasting community impact. This position requires a strategic thinker with a hands‑on approach to engineering challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, planning, and execution of diverse civil engineering projects, including roads, bridges, water systems, and site development.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of junior engineers and drafters, fostering professional growth and high performance.
• Conduct site investigations, feasibility studies, and prepare detailed engineering reports, specifications, and tender documents.
• Ensure all project designs and construction activities comply with relevant engineering standards, building codes, and environmental regulations.
• Collaborate effectively with clients, government agencies, contractors, and other stakeholders to achieve project milestones and objectives.
• Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources, proactively identifying and mitigating risks to ensure successful project delivery.

Requirements

• BEng or BSc in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in civil engineering, with a strong focus on infrastructure development.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA or eligibility for registration.
• Proficiency in Civil 3D , AutoCAD, and other relevant engineering design and analysis software.
• Proven experience in contract administration, project management, and stakeholder engagement.
• Strong understanding of South African construction and environmental legislation.
