Job summary

City of Austin Transportation and Public Works, Office of the City Engineer, seeks a Supervising Engineer to oversee bridge, ROW, and street infrastructure programs, including budgeting, staff development, policy implementation, and ensuring projects meet city requirements.

Under nominal direction, you will lead planning, design reviews, contract management, and coordination with consultants, contractors, and utilities, presenting to City Council as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and eight or more years of related experience, including two years in a lead or supervisory capacity.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Texas or ability to obtain within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical advice and direction to internal and external customers.
• Manage, coordinate, implement, or monitor projects or programs and review plans for policy impacts.
• Develop and monitor project budgets and forecasts for short and long-term planning.
• Develop and implment standard operating procedures and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Negotiate contract terms and liaise with consultants, contractors, and vendors.
• Present to City Council, boards, commissions, and other agencies.
