Job summary

The Peabody Preparatory, a division of the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, seeks an adjunct LeadTeacher for the Training Choir in the Peabody Children’s Chorus. The position commences September 2026 and involves nurturing children's musical growth through foundational vocal and musicianship instruction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education, Choral Conducting, Vocal Performance, or related field is required.
• Minimum of three years of experience teaching elementary-aged singers or conducting children's choirs.
• Strong understanding of child vocal development and age-appropriate pedagogy.
• Knowledge of music literacy instruction, including solfège and sight-singing.
• Experience designing curriculum and lesson plans.
• Experience with Google Workspace and digital instructional tools.
• Piano proficiency preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead weekly Training Choir rehearsals and instructional activities.
• Develop and implement an engaging, age-appropriate curriculum in vocal technique, musicianship, and choral performance.
• Prepare and submit weekly lesson plans, rehearsal slides, and instructional materials.
• Select, teach, and rehearse repertoire that supports the program's goals.
• Prepare students for performances, auditions, and other milestones.
• Assist with concert planning, preparation, and logistics.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education, Choral Conducting, Vocal Performance, or a related field from an accredited institution.
