Job summary

Lake County Government seeks a Lead Caseworker in the Department of Human Services to oversee child welfare and adult protection caseloads, including foster care and court-involved cases.

The role requires strong assessment, court testimony, and collaboration with families, providers, and the court system to develop effective treatment plans and ensure safety and permanency for children and vulnerable adults.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in social work or related field required; major coursework in human behavior, child development, or related therapies recommended.
• Extensive public/private social services casework experience and management experience.
• All required state/county trainings for certification must be completed within the first year.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a caseload of court-involved cases and manage intake overflow.
• Prepare court documents for placement and permanency hearings and progress reports.
• Source services for families as part of treatment plans.
• Assess mental health, medical, and physical needs; develop treatment plans with practitioners.
• Provide oversight of investigations; supervise foster care placement and parent-child visits.
• Testify in court and provide recommendations on abuse, neglect, and custody matters.
