Harmons Grocery in Salt Lake City, UT is seeking a Kitchen Lead to maintain quality standards for chef-prepared items and train prep cooks. You will prepare salads, entrees, soups, and hot case items, receive and stock products, and manage production levels to meet store needs.

You will ensure pricing accuracy, supervise the kitchen, and provide friendly, consistent customer service while upholding Harmons’ recipes and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED preferred; two-year college or technical school degree preferred.
  • One year of kitchen experience preferred; any education/experience combination that covers the listed skills is acceptable.
  • Current Food Handler’s Permit and ability to read recipes are required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and packages salads, entrees, soups, and hot case items following Harmons’ recipes.
  • Receives and stocks product; maintains inventory levels for the kitchen.
  • Ensures pricing accuracy and signage for ad items.
  • Trains chefs and prep cooks; writes production sheets as needed.
  • Delivers excellent customer service and supports kitchen operations daily.
  • Maintains cleanliness and sanitation to company standards.

$19.83 - $22.53 PER HOUR

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The purpose of this position is to maintain quality standards and product levels of all chef-prepared products in the kitchen, in addition to educating and training other chefs and prep cooks. This person will be preparing and packaging salads, entrees, soups, and hot case items, receiving and stocking product, determining production and inventory levels, and providing exceptional customer service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Follows established departmental and store policies and procedures
  • Ensures the quality and freshness of all products and services the kitchen provides
  • Responsible for maintaining the appropriate product assortment and inventory levels for the kitchen
  • Confirms pricing accuracy and signage for all products, paying particular attention to ad items
  • Ensures the kitchen is cleaned and sanitized daily and meets the company standards for appearance
  • Delivers excellent customer service to all customers
  • Prepares all chef-prepared items in the kitchen including salads, entrees, soups, hot case items, etc. following Harmons’ recipes
  • Prepares food for special orders and events
  • Receiving and stocking of product
  • Trains chefs and prep cooks
  • Writing production sheets based on department needs and past and projected sales
  • Responsible for inventory and ordering product for the kitchen
  • Provides honest, direct, and constant feedback to associates regarding their performance and areas of improvement
  • Assists as needed to ensure the success of the kitchen as a whole
MARGINIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities:

A high school diploma or GED preferred; two‑year college or technical school degree preferred; one year of kitchen experience preferred; or any combination of education, experience, and training which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Current Food Handler’s Permit
  • Must enjoy working with and handling kitchen products
  • Should have a passion for preparing, cooking, and eating food particularly kitchen items
  • Ability to use good judgment and to make decisions quickly and independently
  • Have a wide range of knowledge in food, ingredients, knife skills, and cooking techniques
  • Ability to read and follow a recipe
  • Basic math skills used to double or half a recipe
  • Ability to interpret policies and procedures
  • Excellent organization and planning skills
  • Must possess solid communication skills, including verbal and listening skills to communicate with customers and fellow associates effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to handle conflict professionally and appropriately
  • Must possess the ability to accept constructive review and be accountable for one’s own success as well as the success of your team
  • Required to make logical, significant decisions using general, recognized skills and techniques
  • Must possess integrity, a positive attitude, be mission‑driven, and be self‑directed with a demonstrated passion for Harmons’ mission and commitment to working collaboratively

Work is generally performed in a safe and comfortable store environment with the possibility of frequent exposure to hot, cold, and wet conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to grasp, push, pull, carry, stoop, twist, crouch, and reach; perform tasks requiring repetitive motion and eye, hand, and foot coordination; hear and respond to customer inquiries. Also requires standing, walking, and bending throughout the entire workday and the ability to maneuver heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds from location to location.
