GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Lead Cashier (LC) is responsible for the efficiency of guest transactions and maintaining excellence in cashwrap standards, including cleanliness and overall aesthetics. Experienced in cashiering, the LC assists in training new cashiers and cross-training other associates. This position drives loyalty results, including credit, through performance, people, and process focus. The LC supports the leadership team with register functions, associate inspections, and cashier chats, requiring a passion for guest experience, process excellence, and delivering exceptional results by engaging guests on our Loyalty Life Cycle and contributing to goal achievement.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The LC demonstrates Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values by performing the following duties:

Performance
  • Contribute to meeting or exceeding store goals related to retail and service sales, omni-channel, guest loyalty, and retail shrink.
  • Ensure each guest receives exceptional service through greeting, engaging, personalizing service, and recommending products/services.
  • Handle sales, refunds, and exchanges courteously.
  • Assist guests with makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demos to enhance sales and experience.
  • Book appointments and support in-store events to deliver an exceptional guest experience.
  • Maintain replenishment and organization of cashwrap displays and supplies.
  • Maintain regular attendance.
People
  • Support an inclusive environment for teammates and guests.
  • Assist leadership with cashier chats and associate inspections.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services.
  • Promote the guest loyalty program and create excitement around credit and loyalty goals.
  • Assist in training new cashiers and cross-training associates.
  • Engage and influence peers to achieve performance goals.
  • Drive cashier accountability and participate in ongoing training.
  • Collaborate to grow the business.
Process
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and standards.
  • Adhere to dress code.
  • Complete all transactions accurately and control cash/media.
  • Perform register opening and closing functions as directed.
  • Maintain store cleanliness and standards.
  • Protect assets and minimize loss.
  • Execute other operational tasks as needed.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • High school diploma preferred.

Experience

  • 2 years relevant experience or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to delegate, multi-task, and problem-solve.
  • Passion for guest service and sales.
  • Experience in addressing guest concerns professionally.
  • Experience exceeding sales goals and training new hires.

Skills

  • Proficient with POS systems and technology.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Build and maintain customer relationships.
  • React under pressure and adapt flexibly.
SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Mobility throughout the store.
  • Frequent bending, lifting up to 25 lbs., and reaching.
  • Object manipulation during shift.
