GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE
The Lead Cashier (LC) is responsible for the efficiency of guest transactions and maintaining excellence in cashwrap standards, including cleanliness and overall aesthetics. Experienced in cashiering, the LC assists in training new cashiers and cross-training other associates, demonstrating proactive collaboration, leadership, and influence. This position drives loyalty results, including credit, focusing on performance (sales, guest experience, and loyalty), people (guest service, associate training and development), and process (operating procedures and compliance standards, especially cashiering). The Lead Cashier supports the leadership team with register functions, associate exit inspections, and cashier chat ins/outs, requiring a passion for the guest experience, process excellence, and delivering exceptional results by engaging every guest on our Loyalty Life Cycle and contributing to goal achievement.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The LC embodies Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values, performing the following duties and responsibilities, along with all other assigned projects/duties:
Performance
- Contribute to meeting or exceeding store goals related to retail and service sales, omni-channel, guest loyalty (including credit), and retail shrinkage.
- Ensure each guest receives exceptional service by creating a guest-friendly environment, greeting and engaging guests, personalizing service, and recommending products and/or services.
- Handle sales, refunds, and exchanges courteously.
- Support guest service by pairing guests with associates for makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to enhance sales and experience.
- Book appointments and support in-store events that deliver outstanding guest experiences while meeting sales goals.
- Maintain the replenishment, organization, and presentation of all cashwrap displays, supplies, and impulse fixtures to ensure readiness.
- Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
People
- Support an inclusive environment that values teammates, peers, and guests.
- Assist leadership with cashier chat ins and outs, and associate exit inspections.
- Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services, and be knowledgeable about ingredients and benefits to better serve guests.
- Promote the benefits of the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, fostering excitement and accountability for loyalty and credit goals.
- Assist in training new cashiers and cross-training other associates.
- Lead peers to achieve productivity and performance goals.
- Drive cashier accountability in delivering the Ulta Beauty brand experience and following system prompts.
- Participate in ongoing training to support professional development and sales performance.
- Collaborate with store management and staff to grow the business.
Process
- Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
- Adhere to the dress code.
- Complete all transactions accurately, including returns and media control, per company policies.
- Perform select register opening and closing functions as directed.
- Maintain store cleanliness and standards throughout the store, including at the cashwrap, salesfloor, and restrooms.
- Protect company assets and minimize loss through adherence to standards and safety protocols.
- Perform other operational tasks as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- High school diploma preferred.
Experience
- 2 years relevant work experience or equivalent education and experience preferred.
- Ability to delegate, multi-task, and problem-solve.
- Passion for guest service and sales.
- Experience in addressing guest concerns professionally.
- Proven ability to exceed sales goals and train new hires.
Skills
- Proficient with POS systems and Apple devices.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to build and maintain customer relationships.
- Ability to react under pressure, exercise good judgment, and be adaptable.
SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be 18 years or older to hold this role.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Mobility throughout the store during shift.
- Frequent bending, reaching, lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Constant coordination and object manipulation.
