Job summary

McCandless Construction is seeking an experienced Working Lead Carpenter to run a small crew on custom residential projects in the Charlotte area. The role is hands-on, with emphasis on craftsmanship and leadership.

You will perform framing, trim and finish carpentry, read blueprints, and coordinate with homeowners and subcontractors while keeping jobs moving and safe. This position requires strong communication and the ability to manage crews on site.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in residential construction/remodeling.
• 5+ years leading crews on jobsites.
• Strong framing and finish carpentry skills.
• Ability to read blueprints and plans.
• Own standard hand and power tools.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to lift 60+ lbs.
• Excellent communication and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise small crews on residential construction and remodeling projects.
• Perform hands-on carpentry daily while directing others.
• Read, interpret, and lay out work from blueprints and construction plans.
• Lead framing work for walls, floors, roofs, and trim.
• Complete detailed finish carpentry including crown molding, base trim, doors, windows, and interior trim.
• Coordinate with project management, subcontractors, inspectors, and homeowners.
