Job summary

Thompson Health seeks a skilled Maintenance Technician to lead carpentry and general upkeep of our facilities. You will perform repairs, renovations, painting, and equipment maintenance across the campus, using hand and power tools.

Job description

Schedule: Full time, days. On call requirements.

Main Function
  • Takes a lead role to perform a wide variety of skilled tasks involved in the maintenance and repair of carpentry including minor renovations, painting, door hardware, furniture repair, ICRA installation and maintenance related to the care and maintenance of The Thompson Health System buildings and facilities.
  • Construct, repair and maintain structures such as walls, doors, furniture, cabinets and equipment within the facility using hand and power tools as assigned.
  • Applies coats of paint, varnish, stain and other finishes and wall coverings to decorate and protect the interior and exterior surfaces, equipment and furniture.
  • Assist with other general maintenance activities as directed.
Job Specific Competencies
  • Prioritizes work in accordance with established standards and policies while maintaining a strong working knowledge of facility operations and components.
  • Demonstrates advanced skills in general maintenance and building trades, including carpentry, painting, flooring, and renovations; performs preventative and routine maintenance (e.g., equipment service, repairs, installations) accurately, efficiently, and with minimal supervision using plans and instructions.
  • Maintains responsibility for facility keying, signage, and engraving equipment, and interprets blueprints, diagrams, and building design with strong construction knowledge and basic understanding of plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems.
  • Completes work orders and documentation accurately and on time, performs deliveries/pick-ups as needed, and maintains a clean and safe work environment.
  • Trains and supports coworkers and associates in maintenance practices, safety procedures (including electrical and fire safety), and proper equipment use.
  • Responds effectively to emergency situations, contributes to continuous operations, pursues professional growth, and performs additional duties as needed to support efficient department function.
Education And Experience
  • High school graduate or equivalent (Required).
  • Associate’s Degree in the construction trades including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC (Preferred).
  • Ten years in construction/building maintenance field (Required).
  • Fifteen years or more in construction/building maintenance field (Preferred).
Qualifications
  • Must have a valid N.Y.S. driver's license and must be qualified to operate facility vehicles (Required).
  • Pay Range: $24.50 - $34.00 per hour.
  • Starting Rate: Based on experience.
