Job summary

Indian River State College seeks a Campus Safety Sergeant to oversee daily operations, coordinate officer assignments, and ensure a safe campus environment across IRSC campuses. The role requires decisive leadership, clear communication, and the ability to act calmly in high‑pressure incidents.

You will supervise, train, and evaluate officers, respond to emergencies, coordinate with partners, and maintain records.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five (5) years in campus safety or police/military police with supervisory experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Florida Class G Armed Security Officer License.
• Knowledge of supervisory practices and performance management.
• Ability to enforce College policies and communicate effectively.
• Ability to plan emergency drills and safety initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision and guidance to assigned Campus Safety Officers, ensuring accountability for performance, conduct, attendance, appearance, and compliance with policies and laws.
• Conduct roll calls, shift briefings, inspections, and other supervisory activities; assign personnel to posts, patrol areas, facilities, and calls for service; ensure staffing coverage.
• Monitor, evaluate, and document officer performance; provide coaching, counseling, training, and performance feedback; address deficiencies per policy.
• Prepare and maintain documentation related to evaluations, investigations, disciplinary actions, and other personnel activities.
• Review reports and documents for accuracy; conduct preliminary inquiries or investigations when required.
• Patrol campus facilities to address safety, security, and maintenance concerns; inspect buildings and report hazards.
• Respond to alarms, emergencies, and incidents; de-escalate conflicts; coordinate with law enforcement and responders.
• Lead Officers during emergencies and events; manage communications and safety procedures.
• Prepare incident reports and maintain records in accordance with requirements.
